How did you get into Marketing & Comms?

I studied Fashion Promotion at London College of Fashion which is where I initially learned about marketing and PR. I then went on to intern at a number of agencies before landing my first job at an experiential PR and marketing agency called Brando

What does an average day look like?

The exciting part of my job is there is no regular day, one day I will be on location at a shoot with a client, the next I will be casting campaigns and looking for faces for our brand clients and then I might also be brokering a commercial deal for one of my talent clients.

What advice keeps you going in challenging times?

That there is always a route to success, the Maya Angelou quote “All great achievements require time” is a reminder that when you dedicate time and focus you can achieve most things.

What is the one thing you wish you’d known when you started working in comms?

People respect you for having boundaries and they also respect you for asking for your worth. I spent many years not asking for what I was worth and so I left a lot of value on the table. Now I wish I had backed myself sooner.

What’s your greatest achievement to date?

I don’t see achievements as isolated moments because they constantly evolve and change, however in recent times bringing Pattern hair care to the UK and mapping out the strategy and approach has certainly been a highlight for 2022.

Is there a particular comms campaign that you’ve seen in your career that you didn’t work on but wish you had?

I would have loved to launch Fenty into the UK, I have a real passion for Black owned businesses and disrupter brands so that’s a moment that stands out to me.

What’s the key skill you think a successful PR/comms/marketing pro requires?

Creativity, resilience, and a true understanding of the cultural landscape and the audience you want to impact. I am constantly reading, researching, going out and networking because in this industry relevance is currency and your network is your net worth.
